Pushing themselves in their music

"There's a world accepted wisdom in Rock n' Roll that a band's second album is always a difficult experience. A typical band were always told how about 18 years to write the first album and about 18 months to write that difficult second album which typically they have to do while under pressure to keep digging and promoting the first album. If a band survived to make a third record and most bands don't, then the form is they bought themselves some time to craft the album they actually wanted to make as their second album but didn't because of the pressure they were under at the time. It is your typical vicious circle. But Radiohead are not your typical rock band. The pressure they put themselves under to keep evolving and pushing themselves in their music is positively intense."
